The New York Knicks do not have a pick in the current draft but that will not stop them from getting one of the incoming talents. According to a report from Fan Sided, the Knicks are hoping to make a trade with the Philadelphia 76ers in order to get one of their late first round picks.
According to the report, the only players the Knicks are adamant to keep are Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis. The 76ers currently have three picks for the draft: the number one pick followed by the 24 and 26 slots. It is speculated that the Knicks may get one of the late first round picks from the 76ers or will need to wait until their second round of choices.
The report further states that the Knicks have shown interest in several draft choices and may be after any number of these during the 76ers second round in the draft this month. The team has not yet made any official statement, however, if they have already begun negotiating with the Philadephia 76ers.
It is further pointed out that the Knicks have already signed Tony Wroten, the team's shooting guard, for a multi-year deal. Wroten is notably from the 76ers and may be the Knicks' main weapon against the other teams, particularly if the 76ers pick up draftee favorite Ben Simmons.
The report also explains that the Knicks will require some new talent into their roster considering that many of their players are signing out as they become free agents. The Knicks have currently lost Lance Thomas, Arron Afflalo and Derrick Williams to free agency. Keeping Wroten and trading someone for the 76ers' draft pick will boost their chances in the 2016-2017 NBA season.
According to NJ.com, the 76ers are going in a new direction now that Sam Hinkie has officially resigned as general manager and this may open opportunities to make a deal with the Knicks, although at this point nothing is final.
