New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is bouncing back from the fireworks accident that seriously injured his right hand and is already participating actively in practice after signing a new contract earlier this week.
Since the incident that happened last July 4 which injured Pierre-Paul's right index finger, he became distant from the Giants until inking a new deal Tuesday and returned to practice Wednesday.
According to ESPN, in his first practice back, Pierre-Paul stretched with his teammates before spending the entire practice session working out with trainers on the sideline.
But in the 26-year-old's second practice with the Giants, he took a huge step and already did football drills which made his teammates cheer for him according to Newsday.com.
Giants head coach Tom Coughlin believes Pierre-Paul is in great condition and said according to ESPN that the defensive end weighed 268 pounds (10 pounds lighter than his normal playing weight) which he believes is better.
"I think that where he is right now, with some time spent in the weight room under the tutelage of our group, I think he'll be fine," Coughlin also said.
ESPN also reported that sources say a comeback for Pierre-Paul might be in Week 10 or 12, since New York will be having its bye week in Week 11.
The Giants will really be needing Pierre-Paul for their Week 10 game since they will go against the defending Super Bowl champions and currently unbeaten New England Patriots.
Then for Week 12, which is also a possible return for the two-time Pro Bowler, the Giants will take on the Washington Redskins.
Last season, Pierre-Paul did not miss action and played in all 16 regular season games for the Giants and was a defensive weapon for Coughlin as he had 77 tackles and 12.5 sacks.
The Giants are aiming to return to the playoffs after missing it for the past three seasons following their Super Bowl XLVI win in the 2011 season.
