New Orleans Saints roster news 2015: Drew Brees tears plantar fascia, looking to play remaining regular season games

As the New Orleans Saints continue to dwell at the bottom of the National Football Conference (NFC) South, franchise quarterback Drew Brees faces a different dilemma as he has a torn plantar fascia.

ESPN reported that despite the injury, Brees is looking to finish the season with only two weeks remaining, although his passing might be affected since he is throwing off the injured right foot.

Brees' injury is the same with Denver Broncos franchise quarterback Peyton Manning who already missed their past five games because of the injury.

According to the report, Saints head coach Sean Payton said, "We're kind of taking it day by day. I know he's had it looked at, he's had an MRI. I think each day we'll gather more information and have a better idea of where he's gonna be as it pertains to playing in this game or not."

The injury is not the first major health setback Brees suffered this 2015, as he also had a rotator cuff injury early in the season.

In 13 regular season games played, the 36-year-old veteran has 371 completions for 4,135 yards and 28 touchdowns, also throwing 11 interceptions.

Brees should be recovering quickly if he wants to play in their next game, which will be a home stand this Sunday taking on the Jacksonville Jaguars.

If the injury would not allow Brees to play, New Orleans has two options to start at the quarterback position — either veteran backup Matt Flynn or rookie Garrett Grayson.

Following the game versus the Jaguars, the Saints will take on division rivals the Atlanta Falcons on Jan. 3, 2016 to end the season.

The Saints failed to make it to the playoffs last season and with their current 5–9 record with only two games left in their schedule, they are again bracing for another losing season.
