"New Girl" star Jake Johnson, who plays Nick in the TV series, recently talked about his character and his relationship with Jess, played by Zooey Deschanel.

According to Johnson during an interview with People, he is rooting for a long-term relationship for Nick and Jess, but believes that the show will be better off if both of them are not together.

Nick and Jess fans shouldn't be disappointed because Johnson didn't mean that the two characters don't belong together.

It's just that "New Girl" is a show that has six characters in them and putting Nick and Jess as the main focus would weaken the whole show. The actor believes that all characters should be given interesting storylines equally.

In the same interview, Johnson also revealed that "New Girl" season five will be released by January, and that filming of the episodes will start by October. He went on to state that this is mostly because Deschanel will still be on her maternity leave.

Deschanel gave birth to a baby girl with her husband, producer Jacob Pechenik, in late July, reports stated.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Vogue, Johnson was asked about how he feels for the new season of their show. He responded that he's actually excited about season 5 and he doesn't care what will happen since he likes playing his character.

Not much has been known about the new season of "New Girl" but it was already confirmed that fans will get to see Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Cece's (Hannah Simone) engagement party during the premiere episode.

According to Us Weekly, cast members have revealed a bit of what's to come for season 5. Simone expressed her excitement over Cece's engagement to Schmidt as it would mean that the actress will be reunited with Greenfield.

Apart from the reunion, it will also mean that fans will get to know more about both characters. Since their engagement will be featured, it's expected that their stories as individuals will also be revealed.

More surprises are expected to come as "New Girl" returns with new episodes sometime in 2016.
