A new girl will be featured in "New Girl" season 5, FOX Network has revealed.

"Transformers" star Megan Fox will join the cast of the sitcom while lead actress Zooey Deschanel remains on leave after giving birth to her first child named Elsie Otter back in July.

Deadline reported that Fox will portray the role of a beautiful, outspoken pharmaceutical sales rep named Reagan, who will temporarily rent Jess' (Deschanel) loft while she fulfills her jury duty. According to reports, Fox will make her "New Girl" debut in season 5's sixth episode.

Deschanel revealed how happy she was when she found out that Fox will be on the show. "I'm super excited — we get to do one episode together. Essentially, [my character Jess] gets on jury duty and has to be sequestered, so the roommates rent out her room for a few weeks. I think [Megan's] going to be fantastic," the actress told PEOPLE.

But unlike Deschanel, some of the fans are not happy to learn about Fox's appearance on the show and even strongly opposes it. There are even several fans who threatened to boycott the show once Fox fills in for Deschanel this season.

This prompted series creator Liz Meriwether to talk about the decision to cast the 29-year-old actress in the series.

"It's insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it," Meriwether told Deadline. "I've been a fan of her comedic skills since 'This Is 40,' and I'm so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she's the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up."

"New Girl" season 5 is slated to premiere next year.
