New Bishop of Monmouth

The Bishop of Monmouth-elect, the Venerable Richard Pain

Saturday will be a special day for the new Bishop of Monmouth when he will be consecrated at Llandaff Cathedral and celebrate his 57th birthday.

The Venerable Richard Pain is the former Archdeacon of Monmouth and was elected to his new role in July.

He will be consecrated as the 10th Bishop of Monmouth at the Cathedral on Saturday at 2:30pm. 

The consecration will be led by the Archbishop of Wales, Dr Barry Morgan, and attended by other serving and retired bishops.

The address will be given by the former Archbishop of Canterbury and a former Bishop of Monmouth, Dr Rowan Williams.

Ven Pain will be led into the Cathedral by a long procession of the bishops, as well as senior clergy, church registrars and chancellors and representatives from other Christian denominations.

He will be enthroned at Newport Cathedral on October 18.
