To counter the hype surrounding the inevitable release of Apple's very first wearable, the Apple Watch, tech giant Motorola is pushing for the release of the second generation of its Moto 360.
The Moto 360 is one of the very first peripherals to define what a smartwatch is all about. Combining a classic timepiece design and quality craftsmanship with state-of-the-art connectivity, the Moto 360 revolutionized the wearables industry. However, it has been some time since the Moto 360 was released, and now Motorola has to compete with other smartwatches in the field such as LG's G Watch R, the G Watch Urbane, the Huawei Watch, the upcoming wearable by Apple, and a rumored premium smartwatch from Samsung.
Motorola Mobility, a subsidiary of tech giant Lenovo, seems to be moving forward with the second generation of its smart wearable. Back in March, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanquing teased fans with an image in his Weibo page, seeming to confirm the rumors that the next Moto 360 is coming.
Now, leaked images, purportedly of the upcoming Moto 360, are circulating online. Design-wise, it seems that the smartwatch does not look all that different from its predecessor. However, it appears much slimmer and features thinner bezels. Also, from the image, it seems that this year's Moto 360 will feature inserts rather than arms, which hints at swappable watchbands.
iDigitalTimes also reported that the next smartwatch will upgrade its watchface display, increasing the resolution from the old one's 320 x 290 pixels to 360 x 360, which will likely render a much clearer display with more vivid colors and brightness. Furthermore, the next Moto 360 will reportedly be a perfect circle.
There are no official details yet about the second-gen Moto 360, other than the leaks. However, with the launch of the Apple Watch already near the horizon, fans and tech observers are sure the Motorola is already cooking up ways on how to counter the competition.
