Motorola's new Moto 360 2 smartwatch, on the other hand, is expected to be announced alongside the Moto X (2015) and Moto G (2015) smartphones at an event in New York City that will take place on July 28.

Recently, new details on both the Moto 360 2 and the Samsung Gear A smartwatches have surfaced, providing a glimpse of their specifications. Here's what to expect from the two new devices.

For Samsung's Gear A, it was said that the new watch, unlike its predecessor the "Gear Live," will run on the South Korean vendor's own Tizen operating system (OS). Motorola's Moto 360 2, on the other hand, will run on Android Wear OS.

The Samsung Gear A is expected to sport a Super AMOLED display screen with an unknown size and a 360 x 360 resolution. Meanwhile, the Moto 360 2 is expected to come with a 1.56-inch backlit LCD display screen with a 360 x 360 resolution as well.

Under the hood, the Moto 360 2 might pack a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a 512MB RAM and up to 4GB internal memory. The Gear A will also have 4GB memory, according to recent reports, an Exynos 3472 processor, and a larger 768MB RAM. In addition, the Gear A will pack a 250 mAh battery and the Moto 360 2 will come with a larger 400 mAh battery.

Other new smartwatches coming out this year include Huawei's first smartwatch called "Huawei Watch" and Asus' upcoming "ZenWatch 2," which is the new successor to the company's original ZenWatch device released last year.
