Moto 360 2 release date, specs rumors update

The Moto 360.

When news of the Apple Watch launch leaked, tech giant Motorola tried to quash the competition even before it came out by releasing its own Moto 360 on the Moto Maker. This makes the already-customizable smartwatch even more flexible in its design and form, offering different watch faces, straps, and design.

Now that the Apple Watch has been launched, and with a more improved Android Wear update, it seems that Motorola has decided to do a follow up on one of their very first wearables.

No official details yet have been made about the second-generation Moto 360. However, Kellex of Droid Life has reported that a Motorola device has been recently listed at Bluetooth SIG, and this could already be the rumoured Moto 360 2.

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group is an organization that oversees the development of Bluetooth standards. The body is also the organization that makes the licensing and trademarks to Bluetooth technologies and their manufacturers.

When the original Moto 360 was being developed, it showed up at the Bluetooth SIG board to be evaluated in August last year. It should be noted though, that the list showed up just days prior to Motorola announcing the release of the wearable. If the timeframe for the second-generation Moto 360 follows that of the first, Moto fans may see a new and improved wearable much sooner than they anticipated.

In the Bluetooth SIG website, Motorola lists a device known only by BTMW03, its design model number. Observers are quick to note that the first Moto 360 has a BTMW01 design model number, so the new item could easily be a Moto wearable. What's more, the new product is listed to be an "Android device."

No other details are yet available on when the next Motorola smartwatch will be launched, but if the new item being tested is the second-gen wearable, fans may expect the Moto 360 2 in the middle of the year.
