The Minnesota Timberwolves will bring back a veteran next season as forward Kevin Garnett agreed to a two-year deal with the team.

Garnett, 39, returned to the Timberwolves last season via trade from the Brooklyn Nets.

Minnesota selected the power forward-center as fifth overall in the 1995 NBA Draft. Garnett spent his first 12 seasons with the team before joining the Boston Celtics in 2007 through a trade deal.

In a statement to KSTP Sports Garnett said: "I'm incredibly excited and rejuvenated to be part of this talented, committed team."

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, the Timberwolves are hoping Garnett can play at least 20 minutes per game next season.

The 2004 MVP has been plagued by injuries in the past few seasons but is still a proven contributor on both ends of the floor.

Garnett averaged 6.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.6 assists and a steal in 42 games last season with the Brooklyn Nets.

After being reunited with the Timberwolves, Garnett only played five games and averaged 7.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and a steal.

The returning Garnett will play alongside No. 1 overall pick center Karl-Anthony Towns, which will give Minnesota a strengthened frontline.

Towns came from a Kentucky program last season that went 38-0 before falling to Wisconsin in the Final Four of the 2015 NCAA tournament.

As the Timberwolves came up with a deal for Garnett, the team also announced the signing of Towns and fellow rookie no. 24 pick Tyus Jones. Jones was with the Duke team that won the national championship last season.

RealGM.com reported that Towns' deal is a three-year pact worth over $14.9 million. The arrival of Towns now makes the Timberwolves home of the first overall picks in the past three years.

Minnesota also has Andrew Wiggins (2014), who won last season's Rookie of the Year award, and Anthony Bennett (2013), who was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Wiggins and Bennett were involved in the trade that sent forward Kevin Love to Cleveland.
