"Minecraft" for the new Windows 10 operating system was officially announced during Minecon 2015 in London.
Along with the news of the hit game coming to the new system is word that beta testing is set to begin in earnest, with July 29 currently designated as the official start date, according to Polygon. Mojang, the company behind "Minecraft," has not specified how long the beta testing period will be.
Mojang has also announced that players who currently have the PC version of the game would be eligible to receive the Windows 10 edition for free. All they have to do is download it once it becomes available.
The Windows 10 edition of "Minecraft" will not be limited to players who already own the current version of the game. New players can also get the Windows 10 edition for $10 when it is released.
Mojang has already said the new Windows 10 version of "Minecraft" was not designed to take the place of the one already available. Instead, the new version will be designed to make use of the technology available to it and make use of Windows 10 as a different platform, according to IGN.
The Windows 10 version of "Minecraft" will be playable on both PCs and tablet computers, with users also being given the freedom and ability to change controllers as they see fit. The game will accommodate players by immediately changing the input interace as soon as a switch takes place.
In addition, the Windows 10 edition of "Minecraft" will also be capable of providing support for Xbox Live when it is officially released. Players will also be able to immediately share gameplay footage, thanks to the upgraded features of "Minecraft."
Prior to the game's official release, Mojang will be conducting a beta testing period for the game beginning July 29. Mojang has not specified how long the beta testing period will be.
