Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date, specs rumors: Hybrid rumored for early 2017, with 4K edition

Microsoft Surface Pro 4, the current model available Microsoft

The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 has been rumored to launch this coming September or October, but according to a report from Neurogadget, it is now possible that it could launch in early or summer 2017 as Microsoft awaits the launch of the Kaby Lake processors.

The Kaby Lake processors will not be significantly more powerful that the current generation of i7 processors but they will be able to achieve if not surpass the same level of power with less hardware, making them more efficient and more affordable. These processors will be launching in Q1 2017 which explains the delay for the Surface Pro 5.

According to the report, the tablet is also expected to feature new systems such as a USB Type-C and a new rechargeable Surface Pen. This is stated to be more efficient and cheaper than the current Surface Pen which requires consumers to replace the Pen once its consummable battery has died out.

The rumors also suggest that the new Surface Pro 5 will come with multiple models, with one model even coming with up to 16GB of RAM and a 4K Ultra HD display. Microsoft has yet to confirm if any of these rumors are true or even likely to be implemented down the line and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Ecumenical News supports the rumors and states that the tablet may come with 2K and 4K resolution displays. The USB Type-C ports will likely replace the USB 3.0 ports featured on the Surface Pro 4.

Given that the tablet might launch in early 2017 there is also a chance that it will come with the upcoming Redstone 2 update for Windows 10. This will introduced several new features for Windows 10 including the already announced Xbox Play Anywhere that will allow players to swap save files from Windows 10 to their Xbox One and vice versa.
