Microsoft Surface Pro 4 release date: To make device more widely available

Microsoft is now looking to make Surface Pro devices more widely available than ever before.

Microsoft announced their plans to increase their marketing efforts for the Surface Pro line at their Worldwide Partner Conference.

As of now, the product line is only available through about "a couple hundred" certified device distributors, according to Gavriella Schuster, the General Manager of Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Program. Schuster said in a statement that the plan involves upping the number from a couple hundred to about a few thousand, though exact figures were not immediately given.

Microsoft has also said that any partner distributor looking to take part in the expanded Microsoft Surface Pro distribution program can join for as long as they meet the qualifications based on the volume sold, according to Engadget.

Schuster expects around a thousand new resellers to sign up for the new distribution program.

The Surface Pro has thus far received mix reviews ever since it debuted, according to Neowin. However, the most recent version of the device, the Surface Pro 3, has managed to amass a more generally positive collection of reviews. The Surface Pro 4, which would be the newest version of the device, currently has no confirmed release date, although most are predicting that it will be out in 2016.

Microsoft's renewed focus on marketing their Surface Pro line is being viewed as the company's attempt to continue to bolster the final numbers for the nearing release of Windows 10. Most Surface devices will be receiving the new operating system when it is released.

For now, it is unclear whether Windows 10 will be completely available come the target release date of Juy 29, according to CNet.

Some PC makers have yet to receive their version of the new operating system and have thus been unable to outfit their units with it.

It is uncertain if the release of the new operating system for the Surface Pro could also be delayed.
