Miami Heat trade news 2015: Mario Chalmers to be traded?

The Miami Heat seem to be looking at a possibility of ending a seven-year relationship with point guard Mario Chalmers as they look to build a team ready to contend for a playoff spot next season.

Point guard Goran Dragić will surely get the starting nod in the 2015-16 season although the question is who will be his main backup.

Chalmers, Shabazz Napier, Tyler Johnson, Josh Richardson, or a player yet to join Miami can be the backup for the Slovenian playmaker.

But according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, there is uncertainty if Chalmers could even make it to training camp with the Heat but he will surely be Dragić's backup if he stays.

According to Jackson, the Heat are looking to trade Chalmers as soon as an interested team will be willing to work on a deal with them.

Last season, the 29-year-old athlete played in 80 games for Miami and averaged 10.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.5 steals.

Chalmers will be a fine pickup for any team as he can score and is also a threat from three-point territory.

His playoff experience is also notable as he is part of the Heat squad that won back-to-back championships in 2012 and 2013.

Miami is still trying to move on from the departure of LeBron James who left before the start of the 2014-15 season to re-join the Cleveland Cavaliers.

James brought the Cavs last season to his fifth consecutive NBA Finals series and four of those were with the Heat.

The impact of his departure was huge for the Heat who missed the playoffs for the first time in seven years after finishing the regular season with a 37-45 record.

So far, the notable additions for Miami this offseason are guard Gerald Green, veteran big man Amar'e Stoudemire, and rookie Justise Winslow who was the 10th overall pick in this year's draft.
