The Miami Heat added a center to their roster as they signed former second round draft pick Keith Benson, but no information about the deal was disclosed due to the team's policy.
Benson only played a total of three National Basketball Association (NBA) games in his entire career and all are with the Golden State Warriors during the 2011–12 season.
The 27-year-old center has played in the past three NBA Summer Leagues, according to the Heat's official website, and his most recent stint was with the Orlando Magic (White) this season.
Benson played in five games, which included two starts, and averaged 12.8 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.4 blocks per outing.
Before being signed by the Heat and participating in this year's Summer League, Benson had played around the world since becoming a professional in 2011.
Among the teams that he had played for include Dinamo Sassari (Italy), Sioux Falls Skyforce and Erie BayHawks of the NBA Developmental League, Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters (Philippines), Tsmoki-Minsk (Belarus), Shaanxi Xinda (China), Neptūnas Klaipėda (Lithuania) and BC Kalev/Cramo (Estonia).
Benson will be joining Heat centers Chris Andersen, Chris Bosh, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Hassan Whiteside; although Andersen might be moving away soon as he is rumored to be on the trade block for the Heat who look to lessen their payroll to prevent paying the repeater tax.
According to NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk, Andersen has been linked to the Los Angeles Clippers for two-time Sixth Man of the Year awardee guard Jamal Crawford; but no deal has happened so far.
Andersen was Miami's energy guy when he joined the team in 2012 and was one of their best defenders.
But the emergence of Whiteside and with forward Josh McRoberts looking to bounce back from injury, Andersen will likely be spending more time on the bench this season if he stays with Miami.
Despite the trade rumors, the 37-year-old player told the Sun Sentinel that he is a businessman and is not bothered by it.
