Macbook Pro 2013 Retina display, OS X Mavericks release date: new features, specs and more

Apple is expected to launch the updated Macbook Pro 2013 with Retina Display with the Intel Haswell processor in October, just before Black Friday and the holiday season.

Latest reports state that the new lineup of Macbook Pros will not ship until later in the fall due to yield problems in the Retina display devices. The fourth generation Haswell processor will the battery life and graphics of the Pros. It is also expected to come with a full HD FaceTime camera.

The updated processor in the Retina Macbook Pros will support 4K displays, according to Gotta Be Mobile. The new high-resolution displays is expected to have a resolution that is 4x better than standard HD displays.

Meanwhile, Bestbuy offered the Retina Macbook Pro with a massive $200 discount as part of it's Black Friday in July sale, which ended Saturday. An additional $100 was taken off for students with an email address ending with .edu. Regular Macbook Pros have also been discounted by $200.

The Macbook Air 2013 with the Haswell processor was unveiled at the WWDC event in June. Since its release, sales have been strong, particularly amongst customers who favored the longer battery life.

This year's new line up Macbook Airs start with a $999 price tag. Available in 11 or 13 inch displays, the Air features the new 802.11 ac Wi-Fi support, all flash storage starting at 128 GB up to 512 GB and longer battery life. The performance of the computer is enhanced by fourth generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors, and new Intel HD Graphics 5000.

Apple is also slated to release its latest OS X Mavericks operating system around the same time as the Macbook Pro.

For the lineup of regular Macbook Pro, Apple is expected to upgrade the processor from last year's Ivy Bridge to Haswell. The tech-giant will not ditch the optical drive as they did for the iMacs last year, due to demanding popularity by users.
