The upcoming Fox crime-drama-horror TV series "Lucifer"—where a glorified Devil is the main character—has been getting a lot of negative feedback prior to its release. Despite the public's clamour for the TV network to shelve the show, it looks like Fox is still going full steam ahead with.
A clear evidence of this were the leaked scenes from the series that surfaced recently online.
The website TorrentFreak grabbed some scenes from the pilot episode, which were uploaded in both 400MB and 5GB 1080p versions with no visible watermarks, according to Independent UK. The series is expected to premiere middle of next year.
"Lucifer" stars actor Tom Ellis in the title role, character who, "bored and unhappy as the Lord of Hell, resigns his throne and abandons his kingdom for the gorgeous, shimmering insanity of Los Angeles, where he opens an exclusive piano bar called Lux," the official synopsis of the series states.
The character's co-creator Neil Gaiman, also the author of other books such as "The Graveyard Book" and "Stardust," does not seem to be bothered about the leak, since the same thing happened to him back in 2011, when contents of his book were released way before its intended reveal. Surprisingly, the leak even boosted his book sales by up to 300 percent.
"I started to realise that actually, you're not losing sales by having stuff out there," he said.
An online petition was launched earlier this year requesting Fox CEO Peter Rice to stop the production of "Lucifer."
"The program previews mischaracterise Satan, departs from true biblical teachings about him, and inaccurately portrays the beliefs of the Christian faith," the petition reads. "By choosing to air this show, Fox is disrespecting Christianity and mocking the Bible."
Those who signed the petition are also against the violent and sexual nature of the series. They noted that the "previews of the pilot episode depict graphic acts of violence, a nightclub featuring scantily-clad women, and a demon."
