Spock documentary in the works by Leonard Nimoy's son

A month following the passing of Leonard Nimoy, his son Adam announced plans to both produce and direct a documentary about his father titled "For the Love of Spock."

According to a report by Variety, the documentary will be released next year for the 50th anniversary celebration of "Star Trek," the series that launched Leonard into the iconic role of Spock. It will be narrated by actor Zachary Quinto who portrayed the human-Vulcan character in the two recent "Star Trek" reboot films.

Adam told Variety, "This will be a tribute to my dad and Spock. We have plenty to work from because my dad loved telling stories and he was very fond of the role."

According to Adam, the project began several months before the death of his father. The father and son both agreed that the documentary should primarily focus on the "enduring nature of Spock" as well as Leonard's portrayal of the character over the decades.

"I was struck with the outpouring of affection for him after he died, so this feels like the right thing to do," Adam stated.

The report continues to say that Leonard had been continuing to work on the project with his son even after his poor health condition was made public. He had been collaborating with Adam two days prior to his death.

David Zappone will produce the documentary under the label 455 Films, a subsidiary of Paramount Pictures.

Zappone previously worked on other "Star Trek" projects such as "William Shatner's Get a Life" as well as the highly acclaimed "The Captains," which featured all of the actors who portrayed leading roles in the different "Star Trek" series and movies.

Adam himself is no stranger to directing. He directed episodes of "Gilmore Girls," "NYPD Blue," and "Ally McBeal."
