Kirk Cameron motivated to make Christmas movie to 'proudly' put Christ at heart of the season

Outspoken Christian actor Kirk Cameron will bring another religious film to theatres this year.

"Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas" is an uplifting, family-friendly, comedy that celebrates the true "reason for the season", Deadline.com reports.

Cameron, who executive produced the film, explained what inspired him to bring the movie to life.

"My hope for 'Saving Christmas' is that families all across the country will join with my family in putting Christ back into Christmas!" he said in a statement.

"For too many years Christmas has been attacked and hammered by those outside the church, and it's even changed how we think about Christmas inside the church. We are proudly going to put Christ back into Christmas and remind Christians why this is not only a holy day, but a celebration as well."

Provident Films described the movie as "an engaging story that will leave the audience with an understanding of a biblical basis for our celebrations, and the inspiration to stand strongly against a culture that wants to trivialise and eliminate the faith elements of this holy season. So take in the splendor; take in the majesty; take in the story. Take it all in ... and let's put Christ back in Christmas!"

The film stars Cameron, Darren Doane, Raphi Henley, Ben Kientz, Bridgette Ridenour, and David Shannon, and was directed by Doane. Doane also co-wrote the script along with Cheston Hervey. "Saving Christmas" is the first in a three-picture deal between Cameron's CAMFAM Studios production company and Sony Music Entertainment's Provident Films. The second and third films will be released in 2015 and 2016, respectively.

Cameron also collaborated with Provident – a faith-based distribution company – for his popular films "Fireproof," "Mercy Rule," and "Unstoppable."

In a recent interview, the "Left Behind" star said that he doesn't set out to make films that only appeal to religious audiences.

"I love God, I'm a Christian, but the films that I make... are really about themes that I think resonate in people's heart, at least they do in my own family," the 43-year-old told FOX411.

"So I'm always going to make movies that I believe in, that I can give 100 percent to, that I think are going to be offering people something good."

"Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas" will be released in a limited engagement beginning Nov. 14. Check out the trailer below.
