Kim Kardashian says daughter's baptism was a 'beautiful experience'

During the Kardashian-West family's recent trip to Israel and Armenia, they baptised 22-month-old North in a 12th-century Armenian Apostolic Church.

St James Cathedral in Jerusalem welcomed the Hollywood family, as confirmed by Archbishop Aris Shirvanian.

"Kim Kardashian's daughter will be baptised and become a Christian officially and a member of the Armenian church," Shirvanian said. "All I know is that she's a famous personality."

Kardashian said the ceremony was "a beautiful experience."

"Kanye and I are so thankful," she said in this week's issue of PEOPLE Magazine.

The ceremony was performed in Armenian and English, with Kim's younger sister, Khloé, serving as godmother because of the "very special bond" they have, a source told PEOPLE.

"They were so happy and at peace in Jerusalem," the source continued. "Having their daughter baptised there was such an incredible energy."

While in Jerusalem, the couple and other Kardashian family members visited the Old City—considered the site of Jesus' crucifixion.

Their visit to Armenia drew attention to the centennial of the Armenian genocide that left 1.5 million citizens dead. The reality stars shared photos from their visit to the Armenian Genocide Memorial complex, and laid flowers at the memorial's symbolic eternal flame.

"My sister and I are trying to bring awareness not only to our Armenian genocide but genocides and human slaughter, in general. Knowledge is power!" Khloé tweeted.

The celebrities also met with Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan, who praised the sisters' efforts to increase awareness of their home country's struggles.

"The premier hailed Kardashian family's contribution to the cause of international recognition and condemnation of the Armenian genocide, highlighting their visit's importance in the run-up to the genocide centennial," a statement from his office read.
