Kids no longer walking to school

It used to be a common sight in towns and cities across Britain - hoardes of kids filling the pavements as they made their way to and from school.

Today it's a different picture with most kids being driven to school.

The Micro Scooters company asked the parents of 700 children aged between four and 11 which method of transport they used for the school run.

Half said they take the car, while 11% said they put their kids on the bus.

Just 10% said their kids walk to school, with 14% cycling and 15% using the popular three-wheeled scooters.

Among the parents of scooters, 40% admitted that scooting to and from school was the only form of sport their children engaged in beyond the school.

When asked why their kids liked scooting, 60% said it was because it's "cool". Only 3% said it was because it's healthy.

When asked out of phone, laptop, scooter, or games console, which item their children would keep if they could keep only one thing, 45% chose their phone.
