Jeremy Lin trade news: Dallas Mavericks vs Los Angeles Lakers - teams discuss options for free agent point guard

The Dallas Mavericks are having an impressive free agency campaign so far and are now looking to add free agent guard Jeremy Lin after already agreeing to deals with center DeAndre Jordan and guard Wesley Matthews.

Lin could be the answer for the Mavericks' point guard issues and can possibly be a starter with the team.

The 26-year-old could also regain his old form when he was still with the New York Knicks once he decides to join Dirk Nowitzki and company.

ESPN reported that Lin's great relationship with Mavs guard-forward Chandler Parsons is also a factor being considered.

Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo Sports reported that the Mavs are talking to the Lakers for possible sign-and-trade options for Lin.

Wojnarowski said the Mavericks only have limited cap space after spending on Jordan and Matthews as they only have an exception of $2.8 million.

Dallas still has that money remaining in their cap space because they have not signed free agent point guard J.J. Barea yet.

Lin has been a priority for the Mavericks who only have one point guard under contract in the veteran Raymond Felton.

Last season in his first year with the Lakers, Lin played fine averaging 11.2 points, 2.6 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game.

He played in 74 games for Los Angeles which included 30 starts but was mainly a backup facilitator.

If Lin stays with the Lakers, there will be a huge possibility that he will have fewer minutes or will not see action at all with the emergence of Jordan Clarkson last season and the addition of former Ohio State standout point guard D'Angelo Russell ( No. 2 overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft).

Clarkson showed great potential during the 2014-15 season while Russell is expected to be the face of the franchise in the future and is a key piece to the franchise's attempts on rebuilding.
