As confirmed by ESPN's Marc Stein via Twitter, NBA star Jeremy Lin has signed a new three-year deal with the Brooklyn Nets for $36 million. This will be the second team placing Lin in the state of New York as he previously played for the New York Knicks, a period of his career where the "Linsanity" era erupted.
Lin also confirmed the information when he made an announcement on Twitter, stating "The journey continues...thankful for the next chapter."
According to SB Nation, the deal also comes with a player option on his third year, several bonuses and trade kicker benefits. He is also getting a noticeable salary increase given that during his last season with the Charlotte Hornets he managed to average 11.7 points and 3 assists per game on a team that gained 48 wins.
It is also noted that he is going to playing under coach Kenny Atkinson, who is noted to be Lin's favorite assistant coach back when he was playing for the New York Knicks. Atkinson is also known to be one of the assistant coaches responsible for guiding Lin during his "Linsanity" era where he scored over 20 points for six games straight.
With the Nets moving Thaddeus Young out of the roster, only Lin and Brook Lopez are the noticeable veterans. According to the report, this means that Lin is likely going to serve as the team's leader, on and off the hardfloor. It is further explained that Lin may become a key member in redefining the Nets, a team currently undergoing heavy restructuring.
Mercury News reports that this three-year deal will mark Lin's longest tenure with a team and will grant Lin a total of $60 million over his time with the Nets. It is noted that throughout his seven years in the NBA he has been playing for six different teams, staying for no longer than two years with any specific club.
