'Iron Man 4' spoilers roundup: will Robert Downey Jr. join cast?

Iron Man 4 Disney

A lot of speculation has been circling the development of "Iron Man 4" and the involvement of actor Robert Downey Jr. Back in Oct. he admitted on "The Ellen Show" that he would be in "Iron Man 4" but later on "The Late Night Show" he retracted this and stated, "There are no plans for an Iron Man 4."

As previously reported, Air Herald has suggested that Ty Simpkins from "Iron Man 3" would be old enough by the time the fourth film would be in production and that he would take over the mantle of Iron Man.

During an interview with The Empire Magazine, Robert Downey Jr. explained that he decided to stick with "Captain America: Civil War" at the expense of doing "Iron Man 4." This statement hints that he traded one for one and would mean he will not be in "Iron Man 4" if the project continues.

Back in 2014, the actor extended his contract with Marvel so that he could appear in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" and "Captain America: Civil War." It is not yet confirmed if he would be returning for "Avengers: Infinity Wars" part one and two.

Robert Downey Jr. also took part of a Reddit AMA and posted this statement, "Sooner than later the Marvel Roster will be made public and all questions will be answered."

"Iron Man 4" may be on the way but Disney's current slate of films for Phase 3 does not include it in its list of upcoming films. As a matter of fact, several films have been rescheduled to include Sony's new Spider-Man film now that the character is a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

If "Iron Man 4" does push through then it would take place after the current Phase 3 plans. By then, Robert Downey Jr. may be at the point where he's ready to let go and Ty Simpkins would have matured as an actor to take over for him.
