After releasing its Honor 7 smartphone earlier this month, Chinese company Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. recently unveiled a new mid-range smartphone, called Huawei G8, as the successor to last year's Ascend G7 model.

According to Softpedia, the Huawei G8 smartphone will be available in the China market over the next few days, and will cost about US$370.

Last week, the Huawei G8 made its way to Chinese certification authority TENAA's website along with images and its specifications. Its predecessor, the Ascend G7, was unveiled last year during the IFA 2014 event that took place Berlin, Germany.

In terms of the specs and features, the new Huawei G8 will be available in black, white, and gold colors. The report by Softpedia also adds that two models will be available for the G8; one will cost about US$370 and will come with 2GB RAM and up to 16GB expandable internal memory storage, while the other model will cost about US$435 and will have 3GB RAM and up to 32GB expandable internal memory.

In addition, reports say the Huawei G8 will come with a fingerprint scanning technology feature, and will run on the new Android 5.1 Lollipop operating system (OS).

Other specs under the hood include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor, a whopping 3,000 mAh battery, and an Adreno 405 graphics processing unit. The G8 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch display screen with full high-definition pixel resolution.

Also, the device will come with a powerful 13-mega pixel rear-facing camera and a 5-mega pixel front-facing camera. Its camera features will include dual-LED flash and autofocus capabilities. The Huawei G8 is also expected to support Global Position System (GPS), Assisted GPS (A-GPS), Wi-Fi, and 4G Long-Term Evolution (LTE) connectivity.

As of this time, it's unclear whether the Huawei G8 will make its way to other markets as well.
