Houston Texans starting quarterback Brian Hoyer is undergoing the National Football League's (NFL) concussion protocol program after suffering the injury in their upset 10–6 win over the Cincinnati Bengals on the road Monday.
The Texans were the first team to defeat the Bengals this 2015 season and put a blemish on what is now an 8–1 record.
Unfortunately, Hoyer had to leave in the third quarter because of the injury and will have to be cleared through the program before playing again.
Hoyer finished the game completing 12 of 22 passes for 123 yards, throwing one interception, and being sacked twice.
The 30-year-old veteran began the season as Houston's starting passer, but that job was given to Ryan Mallett for a few games before head coach Bill O'Brien decided to switch back to his initial starter.
In seven games played this 2015 season, his first year with the Texans, Hoyer has 141 completions for 1,704 yards and 13 touchdowns, also throwing four interceptions.
Once Hoyer left against Cincinnati, replacing him was backup T.J. Yates who delivered the finishing blow for the victory.
For the game, Yates had five completions for 69 yards and one touchdown, he was also sacked once.
Yates' touchdown pass to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins in the fourth quarter gave them the lead and sealed the win.
It is still uncertain if Hoyer will be available for the Texans when they host the New York Jets this Sunday for Week 11 action, which is also the first game of a two-game home stand.
In a report by NFL.com, Hoyer is listed as day to day while undergoing the league's concussion protocol program, with O'Brien optimistic that he will be ready when they take on the Jets.
The Texans are currently at 4–5, second in the American Football Conference (AFC) South, with their record identical with the leaders of the division the Indianapolis Colts.
