The Houston Rockets will be having another point guard next season as the Denver Nuggets reportedly agreed to trade the troubled Ty Lawson together with a 2017 second-round pick to the leaders of the Southwest division last season.
In exchange the Rockets will send forward Kostas Papanikolaou, center Joey Dorsey with guards Pablo Prigioni and Nick Johnson plus a future first-round pick to the Nuggets.
Despite the player getting arrested for the second time this year because of driving under the influence, teams are still interested in Lawson who has been linked to a number of trade moves earlier this offseason.
The 27-year-old player entered rehab to avoid a warrant of arrest from the judge who presided the hearing of his case.
Lawson will be joining point guard Patrick Beverly in Houston who recently inked a four-year, $25 million contract to stay with the team.
Earlier in the preseason, Lawson was rumored to be traded to the Sacramento Kings who are coached by George Karl.
Karl was Lawson's first coach when he entered the league with the Nuggets and was the one responsible for molding the point guard and helping him improve his game.
Reports said Karl was looking to reunite with Lawson and a possible move to make that happen is via trade since he reportedly wanted to dispatch Kings All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins.
But no deal materialized with the Kings trying to fix relationship issues within their team.
Los Angeles Lakers is another team who showed interest in Lawson even after the second arrest.
The Lakers are trying to rebuild and are looking to complete the pieces they need to become contenders again.
But in the end it was the Rockets who successfully acquired Lawson who spent all six of his NBA seasons with the Nuggets.
Another reason Denver traded Lawson is because they want to focus on their no. 7 pick in the recent NBA Draft who is a much younger but bigger point guard in Emmanuel Mudiay.
