The Houston Rockets will have three quality point guards next season after veteran playmaker Jason Terry said he will be re-signing with the team to a one-year, veterans minimum deal.
Terry spent majority of the offseason as a free agent and along with the Rockets was also pursued by the New Orleans Pelicans who offered him a bigger deal.
But Terry decided to return to the Rockets, which he helped to the Western Conference Finals during the 2014–15 season.
The 37-year-old point guard was acquired by Houston via trade deal last season and he was mainly a backup to point guard Patrick Beverley.
But Terry became a starter late last season and started in all 17 of their playoff games because Beverley suffered a season-ending wrist injury.
In 77 regular season games played last season, Terry averaged 7.0 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per outing.
During the playoffs where he started in all 17 games, "The Jet" was averaging 9.2 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.8 assists per game.
Terry will likely be point guard no. 3 for the Rockets behind Beverley and the newly-acquired Ty Lawson from the Denver Nuggets.
Despite the possibility of having very limited minutes next season, Terry's experience and veteran leadership is huge for a young Rockets squad that made it to the conference finals.
In a text message to FOX 26 Sports, Terry said Rockets star James Harden was the one who lured him to returning to the team.
"No question, he was all over me. (Harden) basically wasn't letting me go anywhere. That was tough for me knowing how important I am to his growth and his development. You're not the main guy, but the main guy needs you. It makes it a lot easier to come back," Terry said in the message.
He also added that the addition of Lawson already brings them closer than they were last season and also emphasized that the team is healthy as his teammates are coming back from injuries.
