The Houston Dynamo are looking for their second win this August in Major League Soccer (MLS) but they will have a tall task as they face the second-seeded club in the Western Conference — Vancouver Whitecaps FC.
Dynamo opened August with a 1–1 draw against Sporting Kansas City and it was followed by the club's first win of the month against the San Jose Earthquakes (2–1).
But the Orange men's next three matches did not result well as they lost to New England Revolution (2–0); had a draw against the Portland Timbers (2–2); and dropped their latest match in the MLS facing the Colorado Rapids (2–1).
Houston currently holds the same record (8–10–8) and points (32 points) as Real Salt Lake (RSL) with both clubs trying to win the remaining matches in their MLS schedules to have a better chance of reaching the playoffs.
Dynamo and RSL are six points behind the Earthquakes (38 points) who are currently completing the top six clubs in the Western Conference.
Meanwhile, the Whitecaps are looking to snatch the Western Conference and Supporters' Shield standings lead from the defending MLS champions LA Galaxy (46 points).
Vancouver is on the second spot of both standings with 45 points and a 14–9–3 record.
The Caps defeated FC Dallas 1–0 in their last MLS outing to win four of their last five matches.
Along with the win over Dallas, Vancouver also defeated San Jose (3–1), Seattle Sounders FC (3–0), and RSL (4–0).
The only match the Caps were unable to win in those five matches was the one against Kansas City, who handed them a 4–3 loss.
Vancouver will try to end the trend against Houston Saturday since in all the five meetings between both clubs, the hosts ended up winning, according to MLS.com.
The Dynamo will be having home field advantage against the Whitecaps with the match to be held at the BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas.
