Holy Ghost film surpasses $350,000 on Kickstarter

Darren Wilson said his goal with Holy Ghost was to stir the faith of the faithful

Darren Wilson's new fundraising campaign has so far raised $357,655 thanks to incredible fan support on Kickstarter.

The massive sum was raised in just 45 days and will be spent making his new movie, Holy Ghost.

The film project has attracted over 2,300 backers, making it the eleventh overall funded film to date and the most funded Christian film project ever on Kickstarter.

Among the rewards promised to backers were DVDs and opportunities like contributing film footage, joining the crew on set for a film shoot, meeting the director, and attending the premiere at Bethel Church, in Redding, California.

The money raised has surpassed the budget set by Wilson and Wanderlust Productions to make Holy Ghost, allowing them to take the film on tour.

Filming is set to begin in July.

"I am utterly blown away by the success of this campaign and the overwhelming support from our fans around the world," said Wilson.

His last film, Father of Lights, is due out in stores on August 27 through Capital Christian Distribution.  He promises Holy Ghost will "capture the power, mystery and character of the Holy Spirit through amazing God encounters in all corners around the world".

Michael W Smith, Jeremy Riddle, Banning Leibscher and Jesus Culture are among the Christians signed up to appear in the film.

"This will be a film with no script, but will be a visceral, authentic, and wholly unique experience for the viewer," said Wanderlust.

The additional secured funds will also help to secure new technologies and streaming options to allow more people to experience the film.

"Obviously, our films have struck a chord with audiences who are tired of lifeless, judgmental Christianity, and instead want a God who seeks relationship, love, and friendship with His people," continues Wilson.

"My goal with this film is to further stir the faith of millions, as well as poke at some places that maybe need some poking.

"This subject (the Holy Spirit) is highly contested and debated among Christians, and this film will by no means try to be the end-all-be-all of that discussion. I just hope it stirs things up enough to get people aware not only of what they believe, but also why they believe it."
