Have you ever felt disconnected from God? Here's an encouragement for you

Having a personal relationship with God is very gratifying. But despite the fact that our relationship with God is strengthened by God Himself, we still face hurdles and troubles.

One of those unwanted moments that we could possibly face in our relationship with God is when we feel disconnected from Him. Have you ever felt disconnected from God?

Heavenly disconnection

The feeling of being disconnected from God is not a pleasant one. Being disconnected from God feels like being a washing machine or any electric appliance without any power supply – you can't function.

This feeling of heavenly disconnection brings with it heavy damage. Consider how we lived our lives without God before meeting Him and surrendering to His Lordship. Isaiah 53:6a tells us, "All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God's paths to follow our own." All of us will go nowhere without God.

For Christians who have established a relationship with God, however, the situation of feeling disconnected from the Lord is different: It comes with the added difficulty of having to suffer the feeling of separation from God, who promised to never leave us nor forsake us.

Bronze heavens

God spoke of turning the heavens into brass when His people are disobedient to Him. He said in Deuteronomy 28:23, "And your heavens which are over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you shall be iron." Have you ever felt like your prayers ascend to the skies, only to slam against a brass ceiling?

If you have, then most probably you've felt like God isn't listening. Like God isn't responding. Like God doesn't care. Like God has left you.

Jesus Himself

Friend, if it helps you, be encouraged by the fact that Christ Jesus Himself, the Son of God, experienced the feeling of being abandoned by the Father. Matthew 27:46 tells us that "about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?" that is, "My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?"

Isaiah 59:2 tells us that our sins have separated us from God, and won't hear us anymore. Take refuge at the fact that because He carried our sins on the cross, Christ suffered that separation for our sakes (see Isaiah 53:4-5). Because of His atoning sacrifice, we will never be separated from the love of God anymore (see Romans 8:35-39).

Friend, if ever you've felt like you were separated from God, realise that He will never turn His back on His promises. He promised to never leave us or forsake us. He will stick to that. He is faithful.
