"Hannibal" was one of the highest-rated series on NBC but its viewership had steadily declined over the years and was eventually cancelled after just three seasons. However, series creator Bryan Fuller recently sat down for an inteview with Collider and confirmed that there is a chance the show may be revived for a fourth season.
According to Fuller, the cast is completely set up for season 4 and the only issue now is to get everyone's schedule synchronized. At the time being Hugh Dancy and the supporting cast have new shows and Mads Mikkelsen is currently busy with both "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" and Marvel's "Doctor Who."
Once the schedules are all prepared they may begin working on the project. Fuller also stated that working on "Hannibal" has been one of his best experiences as a showrunner and that he is excited to continue the story although real discussions won't be taking place until next year.
"August 2017 is when we can actually start talking about it. That's when we would have to see what the rights are for the character and for the story, and see who's interested and how we get it done," he explained.
In a report from Ecumenical News, it is also revealed that Fuller did reveal how the series would continue if season 4 does see the light of day. Dancy is already aware of the potential future plotlines and how the season 3 finale would be resolved and how it would tie into the season 4 premiere.
Dancy did describe it as a form of reboot but still serving as a sequel, more likely as a change of style or direction for the series.
As stated in the report, "Hannibal" season 4 is still not officially confirmed and Amazon still has the streaming rights for the show but this may all change by August 2017.
