'Halo 5: Guardians' release date confirmed by Microsoft

The gaming industry has been beset with delays lately, the biggest being the setback with regards to the release of anticipated games "Uncharted 4" and "The Legend of Zelda" for Wii U. The numerous delays and schedule changes for other upcoming titles has led gamers to think that there would be no major release for this year.

However, tech and gaming giant Microsoft begs to differ.

Microsoft confirmed that one of the most anticipated sequels for a large-name franchise will be coming this year. "Halo 5: Guardians" is validated to come out on Oct. 27 on the Xbox One. To date, it is the only Xbox-exclusive title confirmed to be released this year.

The company released two new trailers to commemorate the good news, with one of the videos showing the franchise's main character Master Chief walking along a barren wasteland where it seems an apocalyptic battle took place. The other video is of the same story, but now it is seen through the eyes of the new title character, Spartan Locke. He referred to the main protagonist as "the one who was supposed to save us all," hinting again of a major battle being central to the new story.

No new developments are shown other than the two opposing views in the short trailers, and developer 343 Interactive is mum about specific details on the gameplay, plot, or other new features.

However, in a report by Metro UK, 343 Interactive chief Bonnie Ross is quoted as saying, "We want to amaze players with the sheer size of the worlds and battles they'll experience, even as they question everything they thought they knew about its heroes, marvels and mysteries."

In the same trailers, it was shown that the complete collection of earlier "Halo" titles is still available and can be bought in a bundle. The Xbox One "Halo: The Master Chief Collection" Bundle is available for $349.
