
Polyphony Digital has officially announced on the PlayStation Blog that the highly anticipated racing game "Gran Turismo Sport" will be delayed and will now launch sometime in 2017, although a more specific release window was not announced. The game was originally intended to be released in November this year.
"As we approach our planned release date in November, we realize we need more time to perfect GT Sport, which we've already dedicated so much effort towards since announcing the title. We do not want to compromise the experience in any way," reads a portion of the official announcement.
The developers further explain that the game will continue to be showcased at events throughout the world, ensuring that fans will continue to get updates on the game's development and will get to see more of the game in action.
One of the main reasons for the delay, according to the developers, is that the game has not yet met their standards of quality and the developers require more time to perfect some of the new features they are attempting to implement such as physics-based rendering and the new Scapes photo mode.
"Gran Turismo Sport" will be the first entry in the franchise to release on the current generation of consoles and will feature 137 vehicles, 19 racing tracks that offer up to 27 different layouts and the Scapes photo mode that allows player to take snapshots in 4K resolution.
Fans speculate that the game is further being pushed back in order to ensure it is compatible with both the regular PS4 and the upcoming PS4 Neo, which will support 4K gaming and smoother framerates due to its more advanced hardware. PS4 Neo games are required to run on the original PS4 as well and this may be where optimization issues have risen although this has yet to be confirmed.
