'Duck Dynasty' star Phil Robertson reveals how he met Jesus after getting into a bar brawl

"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson did not grow up as a devout Christian. In fact, he was a "bone to be chewed" non-believer who gave Christians a tough time every time they tried to share the Gospel with him.

He revealed in a video for I Am Second that he had a bad drinking problem in the past and even abused pills. Phil was spiralling out of control because of these things that his wife Miss Kay got terrified.

When a stranger carrying a Bible walked into his bar one day, Phil booted him out without any second thought. "He wanted to introduce me to Jesus," said Phil. "I ran him away."

Phil might have turned his back on Jesus then, but God wasn't giving up on him just yet. After getting involved in a bar brawl one day, Phil had to evade the authorities so he "hid out" in the woods and abandoned his wife and sons for several months.

It was then that Phil realised he had hit rock bottom. "You're all alone. No hope. Miserable. That's when I began to serious[ly] contemplate: 'Is there a way out of all this?'" said Phil.

Upon the encouragement of Miss Kay, Phil finally agreed to meet with the Christian he once kicked out of his bar. Phil might have been reluctant to listen then, but he was touched by the Gospel of Jesus.

"I didn't even know what the Gospel of Jesus was," he admitted. After the man explained, Phil wondered, "How in the world did I ever miss that? I had missed it. I was blown away when I heard that Jesus died for me, was buried and raised from the dead. Something so simple, but profound. I had never heard it."

When his wife got home that day, she saw that Phil had left a note telling her he had gone to church. "We headed in there [church], and when we got into the auditorium I just stopped because there he was up in the baptistry with a man," recalled Miss Kay. "I heard Phil say, 'I want to make Jesus the Lord of my life. I want to follow Him from this day forward.' The next thing I knew he was baptised. It was a complete family then."
