The "Dragon Ball" franchise has seen a growing resurgence in popularity following the release of the "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" film last year. The sequel, "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F," also written by series creator Akira Toriyama, is now set for an April 18 release in Japan.

Western fans won't be able to catch the film all over the nation but Funimation is launching an April 11 screening in Los Angeles. It will be in its original Japanese language but with English subtitles as the English dubbing has not yet been completed.

Tickets for the limited Los Angeles screening are available on the Funimation website.

Funimation did announce on their website that the full English dub version will hit theaters nationwide during the summer of 2015 although no specific date has yet been given.

A new trailer for the film was also released and it reveals the main plot of the film.

In "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F," two remaining soldiers from Frieza's army head to Earth to collect the Dragon Balls in order to revive their master. The resurrected Frieza then wages war against Goku and the rest of the Z-Warriors, using a new golden transformation to match up to Goku's ever-increasing power.

The trailer also reveals that Beerus, the villain in "Battle of Gods," would be making an appearance in the new film.

Both "Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods" and "Resurrection F" are officially accepted in the "Dragon Ball" canon and they follow the events of "Dragon Ball Z" while disregarding "Dragon Ball GT," a series which Akira Toriyama was not a part of.

"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection F" is also making an appearance in the "Dragon Ball XenoVerse" video game as a part of the DLC pack 3, announced on Shonen Jump Magazine, cited by SaiyanIsland.
