The International 5, the tournament being hailed as the biggest ever for "Dota 2," has put up a $17.8 million prize pool for its participants.
Claiming first prize in the tournament will net the winning team a total of $6,464,859 to be divvied up among its members. The second place team in the tournament will win $ 2,783,481 while the team finishing in third will take home $2,154,953 in winnings.
According to Den of Geek, even the team finishing in sixth place will still take home winnings in excess of $1 million. The lowest payout in the tournament will be given to the team finishing from 13th to 16th place. The teams finishing in those positions will still take home a relatively healthy sum of $53,874.
The International 5 tournament will take place across six days in Seattle.
A total of 16 teams will be participating in the largest ever "Dota 2" tournament, according to Destructoid. The brackets for the tournament were determined through the team's performances during group stage play.
The International 5 has already begun, and it is scheduled to end on Aug. 8, concluding with the final match between the winners of the upper and lower brackets.
In related news, one particular participant in the tournament is already grabbing headlines as his team prepares to do combat in The International 5.
Sumail Hassan, a 16-year-old boy from Pakistan, will be one of the members of team Evil Geniuses at the tournament. Hassan has already made headlines earlier this year by helping team Pakistan claim the "Dota 2" Asian Championship back in February, according to The Express Tribune.
Hassan took home part of $1.2 million for winning the tournament.
After helping team Pakistan win the tournament back in February, Hassan was subsequently picked up by e-Sports team Evil Geniuses.
Hassan, along with the rest of his teammates, will now be looking to take home first prize at The International 5.
