Moved by the tragic story of a mother who passed away just four hours after delivering three girls and one boy, people from around the globe are sending their donations to help provide for the newborn infants.
The 36-year-old mother, Erica Morales, died on Thursday at Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona without seeing the children she and her husband Carlos had longed for. The cause of her death is still unknown.
"She never got to hold them; she never got to see them," Morales' cousin and best friend, Nicole Todman, said. "It is so hard to know she fought so hard for her children."
The children, named Carlos Jr., Paisley, Tracy, and Erica according to Fox 10 News, were born one month before their due date via C-section. Though they are premature and would likely stay in the hospital until they hit a weight of 5 pounds, the babies are all in good health.
"They're beautiful," Todman said. "They have tubes in their mouths and their noses. They've got little monitors and wires all over their body."
According to the GoFundMe page set up by Todman for the quadruplets, Erica did everything to get pregnant, "from [trying] acupuncture, to eating fertility-boosting foods, [to] even wearing a double set of knee high socks in the middle of the blazing AZ summer heat to keep her uterus warm."
Finally after two years of trying, Erica was able to conceive through IVF, according to the Daily Mail.
"This is all they wanted, to have this family, to make their family complete. It's like that fairytale story," said Todman.
Erica posted on her Facebook page last week that her doctor said she did "phenomenal" and that she was "a poster child for quads."
But at 31 weeks, Erica was hospitalised as her blood pressure shot up to 190/90.
After explaining that her babies would be born prematurely, Erica wrote: "I always want more but sometimes you just have to sit back and thank God for blessing (sic) up to this point and put it fully in his hands."
As of today, over $100,000 has already been raised for Erica's children and husband.
