Disney Channel is producing a TV movie remake of the cult classic Halloween comedy film "Hocus Pocus," but the upcoming film will not be starring the original cast.

Film writer Mick Garris recently hinted to Forbes that Disney could be producing a sequel.

"I have heard they are developing the script, I haven't been involved in it but I think there will be a sequel," he said.

It has since been confirmed, however, that the film will be a remake and not a sequel.

The 1993 film written by Neil Cuthbert and Garris and directed by Kenny Ortega will be remade into a TV movie but it will not star Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as the famous Sanderson sisters — despite the actresses previously expressing interest in reprising their roles.

Most recently, Parker told audiences at "Watch What Happens Live" how she felt about a possible sequel to the film.

"I would love that," she said. "I think we've all been fairly vocal about being very keen, but that hasn't created any ground swell of movement."

Previously, in 2015, Midler tried to put a stop to the sequel rumors during a Facebook Q&A session by saying, "After all these years and all the fan demand, I do believe I can stand and firmly say an unequivocal no."

David Kirschner, who produced the original film, will return to executive produce the sequel of "Hocus Pocus," while Scarlett Lacey will replace the original screenwriters. Director Ortega will not be returning to helm the production.

"Hocus Pocus" follows three evil witches who are resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts. Max (Omri Katz), Dani (Thora Birch) and Allison (Vanessa Shaw) have to work together to put a stop to their villainous acts once and for all.

The comedy-horror movie made $39.5 million in box-office sales.
