Destiny 2 news: Destiny vs Dying Light - Drink for downloadable content

Special quest unlocks with Red Bull purchase. Red Bull

A marketing collaboration between the gaming industry and manufacturers of snacks and beverages comes as no surprise. In fact, sodas, specifically Mountain Dew's Game Fuel, have been used as a promotional blitz, as in Halo 3.

However, there's a new promotion in town that takes gaming offer to a new level—a collaboration between Activision and Red Bull.

The marketing scheme offers a limited exclusive quest for players of Destiny who will buy the drink.

Following the released date of the game's expansion, "The Taken King,", which will be on September 15, players who bought Red Bull carrying a specially marked label will redeem a code that enables them to download the quest, currently called the "Epic New Quest."

The promotion may seem interesting for Destiny players, but Dying Light developer Techland finds it silly and even made fun of the promotion via Twitter.

In an attempt to spread a message, Techland came up with their own "promotion" in response to the drink for downloadable content campaign. The picture mimics Red Bull's poster, only it had water instead of the energy drink.

Techland hopes to encourage players to drink water, instead of energy drink, to improve performance during the game, adding that water is "delicious and great for your health."

What started out as a gag turned out to be something that Techland has taken to the next level. The campaign is on and players must take a photo of themselves drinking water and upload it with the hashtag "DrinkforDLC."

Meanwhile, Destiny players who want to enjoy a "never-before-seen" mission on The Taken King expansion would just have to go for Red Bull. Otherwise, they may need to wait until January 1, 2016 to enjoy the quest, because the mission will only become available to everyone on that date.

Apart from getting access to the special quest, players with the Red Bull promo will enjoy a one-time XP boost starting July.
