There's no denying that "Deadpool" has brought new life to Ryan Reynolds' career. Before the film came out, his career had more or less stagnated, so it's nice to see him back in the spotlight. It hasn't always been easy, though. It took Reynolds years to get the movie made, and he even paid the core creative team with money from his own pocket just to keep the project alive. But it all paid off in the end because the film was a hit.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Reynolds talked about why "Deadpool" was a successful action-comedy film.

"The best comedy, in my opinion, has to be grounded in some form of truth. The character Deadpool is my alter ego. I don't want to sound esoteric, but I can channel that guy in a way I just can't seem to channel anything else. In terms of his sensibilities and certainly his sense of humor, I feel like we were born at the end of the same spectrum," he stated.

Well, fans certainly feel that he was born to play the foul-mouthed mercenary. He does have a unique connection with the Merc with a Mouth. Reynolds added that they couldn't have made it work if the audience wasn't invested in the character, so they also created some tension to surround the comedy in the film.

During the interview, Reynolds also talked about what made them decide to push for the film. He said he felt film industry needed an anti-hero figure, so they brought the character to the big screen to fill the role of a morally flexible superhero.

"The long game doesn't generally pay off in Hollywood, but once in a blue moon it does, and 'Deadpool' was a case in point," he added.

"Deadpool 2" is scheduled to premiere on Jan. 12, 2018.
