Offensive tackle Jordan Mills did not have to wait long to find a new team after being cut by the Chicago Bears as the Dallas Cowboys claimed him off waivers last Monday.
Mills made the announcement of him joining the Cowboys through a tweet saying, "How bout dem Cowboys , Dallas here I come."
The 24-year-old football player was the 163rd pick of the Bears in the fifth-round of the 2013 National Football League (NFL) Draft.
In two seasons with the Bears, he played and started in a total of 29 games — 16 games in the 2013 season and 13 games in 2014.
Mills struggled with the Bears' new coaching staff but team head coach John Fox said that their decision to release him was not personal, it is just that they liked other players for the position.
Now, the former Louisiana Tech Bulldog will have another chance with the Cowboys, who released linebacker Jasper Brinkley to create a roster space for him.
According to ESPN, the acquisition of Mills added insurance to the Cowboys' swing tackle options.
The report added that the Cowboys' original plan was to let offensive tackles Darrion Weems and rookie Chaz Green compete for the swing tackle position in training camp.
But Green missed training camp because of a hip injury, which earned him a spot on the reserve/physically unable to perform list for rehab. He will likely be out for the first six games of the regular season.
ESPN suggested in their report that Mills may not be ready for the Cowboys' season opener against the New York Giants but called his experience a "plus."
In other Cowboys news, wide receiver Dez Bryant is expected to participate fully in practice this Wednesday according to a report on the team's website.
Bryant suffered a hamstring injury early last month and did not play in all four of their preseason games. Nevertheless, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett expects him to be back in practice as they prepare for their season opener.
