The Dallas Cowboys will play the waiting game for now as star wide receiver Dez Bryant will need time to recover after having a successful foot surgery for an injury he suffered in their season opener against the New York Giants.
ESPN reported that a source said Bryant's injury was a broken fifth metatarsal in his right foot which was repaired through Monday's surgery.
Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said before Bryant's surgery that he is expected to be out for four to six weeks.
But according to ESPN, a source said the Cowboys are expecting Bryant to be out for eight weeks with other reports saying that the timetable for his return is eight to 12 weeks.
After the surgery Bryant tweeted, "I will keep the all Dallas Cowboys fans updated so don't listen to all the craziness.... Surgery went great..... I can't wait to get back."
Before leaving Sunday's 27–26 season opener victory over New York, Bryant had five receptions for 48 yards.
The loss of Bryant is tough for the Cowboys since they do not really have depth at the wide receiver position after Terrance Williams and Cole Beasley.
To address the issue, the Cowboys traded for wide receiver Brice Butler from the Oakland Raiders.
The Cowboys sent a conditional fifth-round pick to acquire Butler with a sixth-round pick according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport.
A seventh-round pick by the Raiders in 2013, Butler has played in 10 games in his rookie season (2013) and 15 games last season, when he had 21 receptions for 280 yards with two touchdowns.
The 25-year-old wide receiver expressed his eagerness to play for Dallas through a tweet saying, "Now it's time to play for Americas team! #CowboysNation I'm coming!!!"
Now, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo will have an additional option with the arrival of Butler.
Dallas will continue its 2015 season facing the Philadelphia Eagles on Sept. 20 for Week 2 action.
