Penelope Garcia's (Kirsten Vangsness) predicament may not be coming to an end soon in the upcoming episode of the CBS series "Criminal Minds."

At the end of the midseason finale, Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) told Garcia that they just received a major breakthrough in the Dirty Dozen case that the Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) has been working on. While the scene was left hanging, viewers saw that Hotch's expression was not that of a happy man. Garcia was being kept in the witness protection program after the mysterious group of men vowed to finish her off. David Rossi (Joe Mantegna) has been trying to offer consolation after Garcia shared how the situation was taking a toll on her. She was getting tired of it fast and there was nothing she or Rossi can do about it.

With Hotch's new update, it appears that she will have to extend her tolerance more, as the BAU is no nearer to capturing the syndicate than when they started working the case. Hotch of course wants to keep his agent safe and to do that, she would have to continue being on the program. He just has to make sure Garcia will not sneak out from her escort or he will have a major problem. Executive producer Erica Messer previously told TV Guide that the storyline would be wrapped up before the end of the installment, but not before this midseason break.

Meanwhile, the first episode of 2016 will be about Dr. Spencer Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler). TV Line reports that the resident genius of BAU will be going out on a hot date. Things will not turn up great, however, as the lady suddenly whips out a gun in the middle of their dinner. Cat Adams, who will be played by "Parks and Recreation" alum Aubrey Plaza, will reportedly infuriate Reid by telling him she knows all about his work as an FBI agent. She then challenges him in a game of wits, where the loser will have the misfortune to see innocent people of the restaurants get shot at.

"Criminal Minds" season 11 return with new episodes on Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
