'Constantine' season 2: Return rumored to happen on the CW

Matt Ryan as John Constantine The CW

"Constantine" on NBC was a hit with critics and audiences but the show failed to attract viewers and was cancelled due to its low viewership ratings. However, according to a report from Cinema Blend, it is now possible that the series will be given a second season now that the rights have been passed to the CW Network.

It is noted that after the show was cancelled, Matt Ryan as John Constantine was able to appear as a guest star on "Arrow" season 4 where he helped Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) deal with the repurcussions of resurrecting Sara Lance (Caity Lotz) and also aided him in fighting Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough).

However, the real possibility is reportedly coming from the fact that the entirety of "Constantine" season 1 is available on CW Seed, a website that allows audiences to stream short web-series such as the animated "Vixen" or older seasons of their shows such as "Arrow" season 1 to 4.

With "Constantine" season 1 on CW Seed, it is presumed that the character might be featured more prominently in "Arrow" season 5 or "Legends of Tomorrow" season 2 given that "Arrow" is returning to a gritty tone where super powers are not so common. If this proves successful then "Constantine" season 2 may be given the green light to proceed.

As stated in the report, the CW has revived "Supergirl" for a second season despite it being cancelled by CBS. The character Vixen will be included as a regular member of "Legends of Tomorrow" season 2. With the network giving a lot of attention to new DC superheroes, it is possible that the studios will consider "Constantine" season 2.

iDigital Times points out that since the CW has since rescued "Supergirl" from cancellation there may be hope that they will bring back "Constantine." Matt Ryan is also not entirely busy as his current project, "The Halcyon," is a mini-series and not a long-running show, which means he may be able to free his schedule to continue playing John Constantine.
