Three commemorative coins are to be produced to mark the christening of Prince George.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's son will be christened on 23 October at the Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.

The Royal Mint will create a gold kilo coin, a £5 coin in silver and another £5 coin that will be more affordable.

It is the first time new coins are marking the christening of a member of the royal family.

Shane Bissett of the Royal Mint said "The Royal Mint has celebrated moments of national significance for over 1,000 years and it was felt appropriate to produce the first-ever set of Royal christening coins to mark the christening of our future king".

He added that "these coins will be a fitting addition to that long tradition".

Prince George, third in line to the throne, was born on 22 July. The Royal Mint celebrated the occasion previously by giving away 2,013 silver pennies to babies born on the same day.
