Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is showing great improvement this offseason but is recently hindered by the soreness he is experiencing in his throwing elbow. He is, however, expected to play in their preseason game on Saturday.

Manziel left Sunday's practice early and according to ESPN, may have hurt his elbow when he threw deep to wide receiver Josh Lenz in an 11-on-11 workout.

The first-round pick in the 2014 draft then headed to the sideline and pointed to his elbow asking Browns head coach Mike Pettine to remove him off the drills.

Pettine said they are not worried that Manziel may have suffered a long-term injury and he was given rest as he did not throw last Monday with Tuesday being an off-day for the team.

The Browns are expecting Manziel to play in their third preseason game on Saturday when they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers looking for their first victory in the 2015 preseason.

"I think we have a pretty good feel that just a day's rest will be enough. If it's not, then we'll deal with it accordingly," Pettine answered in a press conference when asked how Manziel is day-by-day.

Pettine added that Manziel did not have to undergo magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for the injury.

In their last preseason game on Aug. 20 facing the Buffalo Bills, Manziel completed 10 of his 18 passes for 118 yards and one touchdown.

The touchdown was scored when Manziel threw a 21-yard pass to wide receiver Shane Wynn in the fourth quarter.

Down 10–3 after the touchdown, the Bills rallied to win the game 11–10 and hand the Browns their second consecutive loss of the preseason.

Cleveland began its preseason with a 20–17 defeat to the Washington Redskins last Aug. 13.

Following their next game against Tampa Bay, the Browns will play the Chicago Bears on Sept. 3 for their final game of the preseason.
