Christian radio extends reach in North Africa

Trans World Radio is set to reach even more people in North Africa following the successful completion of a major antenna upgrade in the region.

The Christian radio ministry currently broadcasts in 225 languages and dialects each week from 15 primary transmitting sites around the world.

With the upgrade improving coverage and signal, listeners in the region could number as many as 40 million people.

TWR's signal to many north African people groups had been poor prior to the upgrade as a result of the interference caused by electromagnetic radiation from growing cities.

The transmission is now beamed towards the Atlas Mountains in a concentrated beam, as opposed to the earlier, wider-angle signal, making the reception loud and clear.

Says one listener in North Africa: “The signal is better than before. I know that this improvement not only helps us hear the Gospel message, but also allows many more in all of North Africa to listen to these programmes now.”

Trans World Radio broadcasts to North Africa in Arabic and Berber dialects such as Sous, Tamazight, Tarifit and Kabyle.
