Christian Book Awards to be Held at the CRE

|TOP|The Christian Book Awards 2006 ceremony will be held at the National Christian Resources Exhibition on 11am, 9 May 2006 in the Sandown Park Exhibition Centre.

Presented by former first minister of Northern Ireland, Lord Trimble, the three honoured winning authors will be rewarded with cheques for £500 and be given £300-worth of books to donate to a library of their choice.

“These awards are especially significant because they highlight new Christian books written, not for high-brow academics, but for the general market,” said Trevor Hames of Speaking Volumes, part of the Christian Book Promotion Trust (CBPT). Speaking Volumes helps churches place accessible Christian books into public libraries.

|AD|Former MP Jonathan Aitken will speak at a literary luncheon following the award ceremony along with David Trimble.

“The awards are an event not to be missed!” said Diana Home, chair of CBPT. “I’ve always admired David - now Lord Trimble. He has so much to tell us about being a peacemaker. Having both he and Jonathan Aitken at the show - and willing to share their experiences - is a real honour.”

From New Year’s Day until 1 April, the public voted via the web and through leaflets placed in bookshops across the UK. Ten people who voted for their favourite books will be selected as special guests at the event to meet the authors and presenters. They will also receive a signed copy of each winning title.

CRE, Europe’s leading annual Christian exhibition, will be opened by Bible teacher, author and broadcaster Jeff Lucas who will also give keynote talks each day.

The event brings together some 340 suppliers, charities and missions under one roof. Dozens of seminars and presentations will help churches and individuals to be more effective in their ministry. More than 11000 people visited the show in 2005. Dates: Tue 9 – Fri 12 May, 2006.
