Chicago Bulls point guard Derrick Rose helped his team edge the Cleveland Cavaliers 97–95 in their season opener last Tuesday but despite his great performance, he admitted that he was still having difficulty in seeing.
Rose suffered an orbital fracture in their first practice last month which required surgery and led to swelling around his left eye.
Due to the swelling, the former Most Valuable Player (MVP) has been wearing a protective mask in the past few weeks even in their game against Cleveland.
Facing the Cavaliers who eliminated them in the second-round of the playoffs last season, Rose tallied 18 points, one rebound, five assists, and one steal in 32 minutes of action.
Following the win over the Cavs, the 27-year-old point guard told reporters that his vision was still blurry, giving him a hard time and also adding that he was keeping only his right eye open while playing the game.
But according to ESPN's report, game photos have shown Rose with both his eyes open during his time on the court.
Despite the setback with his vision, the former Memphis Tiger showed flashes of his old self against the Cavaliers and drove to the rim aggressively a number of times.
When asked by a reporter how he was able to play a league game despite the difficulty in his vision, Rose answered, "I'm a pro. Not to be cocky or anything, but seriously, I've been playing this game for a long time."
Rose also said the win over the Cavaliers is huge for them especially with everything they have been through, including the changing of their head coach in the offseason.
In their second regular season game last Wednesday against the Brooklyn Nets, Rose again had a good game scoring 15 points, two rebounds, three assists, and one steal to help the Bulls to a 115–110 victory and a 2–0 start this season.
